Most children need far less equipment than the shops suggest. Every guide names what to look for in a category, so you can apply the same judgement to whatever is available where you live.
For toddler painting, look for thick ready-mixed or tempera paint labelled washable. Thicker paint holds a sponge print and shows up on dark card, and washable formulas are far easier to get out of clothing. Acrylic is not suitable at this age because it does not wash out.
A craft kit earns its price when it supplies materials that are genuinely annoying to source: pre-cast plaster, silicone moulds, specialist adhesive. It does not earn its price when most of the box is paper, googly eyes and instructions for something a child could invent themselves. Check the parts list before the photograph.
Two things separate a sensory bin that works from one that does not: a shallow tub small arms can reach into, and tools with genuine function. Wooden scoops, tongs and funnels beat plastic toy versions because they work properly. Add a lid and the whole thing becomes storable.
