Kids Craft Party Activity Box
A set of simple craft stations keeps a room of party guests busy without you running the whole show yourself.

Craft stations solve the awkward stretch of a children's party when the games have ended but the cake is not ready. Instead of one activity for everyone at once, you set out three or four small stations that guests can move between at their own pace, each stocked with cheap, familiar materials. Setup takes about half an hour beforehand, and one adult per station is usually enough to keep things moving.
What you need
- Plain paper plates, cups and card for decorating
- Washable paint, glitter glue and stickers
- Ready-cut card shapes, such as crowns or masks
- Wide craft sticks, pipe cleaners and pom-poms
- Table covers or newspaper for each station
- Small trays to keep each station's supplies contained
- Name labels or a spot to write each child's name
Step by step

Choose three or four simple crafts that need very little instruction, such as mask decorating, paper crown making and sticker collage.

Set up one station per craft, each with its own covered table and contained tray of supplies.

Put one adult or older sibling at each station to top up glue and keep paint pots upright.

Write each guest's name on their piece before they start, so finished items do not get mixed up.

Let children choose which stations to visit and for how long, rather than rotating everyone together.

Set a clear finishing signal, such as music stopping, so everyone knows when to bring their crafts to a drying table.

Lay all the finished pieces out to dry before pack-up, so nothing gets ruined in the rush home.

Letting children pick their own station and pace can give them a chance to practise making decisions without an adult directing every move.

Working alongside other children at a shared tray of supplies practises turn-taking and sharing materials in a low-pressure setting.

A finished craft to take home gives every guest something to feel proud of, regardless of how the game portion of the party went.
Make it easier
Run just two stations with very simple crafts, such as sticker collage and paper crown decorating, if you have fewer helpers on hand.
Make it more challenging
Add a station with a slightly longer project, such as building a card puppet with moving arms, for older guests who want more of a challenge.
Safety and supervision
- Keep scissors at an adult-supervised station only, and pre-cut shapes for stations aimed at younger guests.
- Check for any known allergies before including glitter glue or small decorative beads, since these are a choking risk for younger siblings who may wander over.
- Use only washable, non-toxic paint and glue, and cover tables and floors to protect party outfits.
